Although the Chicago Bears defeated the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday 19-14 at Soldier Field, it was the second- and third-string players who were responsible for scoring all 19 points. As a matter of fact, the starters didn’t look that great as a unit. However, according to Bears’ head coach Matt Eberflus, he was very pleased with Justin Fields’ performance on Saturday.
“I thought it was good, I thought he operated good. I know he had a couple of drops there, they dropped a couple balls there. But we’ll get that cleaned up… his operation was good, his in and out of the huddle was good… overall it was a good performance.”

Eberflus elaborated on Fields hurrying up on the Tajae Sharpe catch in order to avoid the Chiefs from challenging the play. His execution and process of getting the unit to the line were all things that the Bears’ head coach was praised in his presser.
Although Fields was only 4-for-7 for 48 yards with a 78.3 rating, he clearly did enough to impress the coaches, specifically his head coach. Fields’ highlights from the game were his first-down scamper and deep pass to Darnell Mooney. His receiver made an excellent adjustment in order to haul in the catch.
As the preseason continues, hopefully the coaches and fans will see more of Justin Fields. If he continues to do everything the coaches say he has from a procedural standpoint, there will be a lot more highlights ahead of the team’s opening regular season game.
